A non-academic book that I nonetheless found very useful for those in academia and research. I initially picked it up to develop better habits for improving my data science skills and to address a longstanding challenge: time management. l struggled to allocate sufficient time to complete data science projects while maintaining balance in other areas of my life. However, this book turned out to be more than just a guide for habit formation-it offered profound insights into relationships, interactions with my environment, and self-reflection.
Many lessons from this book such as engineering my surroundings to make it conducive for a productive session, and associating habits with a time or place, have been helpful, and I reckon that it would have been extremely useful and beneficial while I was an undergraduate student.  Reflecting on my time as a student, I, like many others, was often willing to sacrifice sleep or spend long hours sitting in the library in an attempt to maximise study time. However, those practices rarely translated into effective learning because they did not align with sustainable, healthy habits.
Healthy habits, as the book highlights, require the integration of physical, mental, and even spiritual well-being. Studying without taking meaningful breaks, losing sleep, or failing to approach material with a refreshed perspective are not conducive to academic success. This book would have helped me establish more effective study habits and, more importantly, made studying feel less arduous and more enjoyable. While I doubt it would have drastically improved my GPA, it certainly would have enhanced my motivation to learn and allowed me to manage my time and energy better.
Additionally, its lessons would have supported a healthier balance between my academic responsibilities, part-time employment, and active involvement in multiple academic and community organisations. By fostering healthier, more sustainable habits, this book could have provided me with the tools to navigate the competing demands of that period with greater ease and enjoyment, because it has certainly accomplished that in the present moment.
